People Power is the ACLU's platform for grassroots action. By mobilizing in defense of our civil liberties, volunteers will build and strengthen local communities that affirm our American values of respect, equality, and solidarity.
For 98 years, the ACLU’s defended our Constitution in the courts. Now, we’re coupling that legal power with People Power — and taking our fight to the streets.
On immigration, just like activists organized locally to demand the release of people detained at our airports by federal authorities, People Power activists are organizing in our communities to ensure that our local law enforcement officials defend – not threaten – our friends, families, and neighbors. Freedom Cities provides a blueprint for local-level campaigns to to defend immigrants from Trump’s mass deportation agenda.
Since launching in March, our volunteers have met with nearly 1,000 law enforcement officials and secured city and county victories across the country - from Culver City, CA to Rockville, MD.
It’s time to go on the offense for voting rights. While Donald Trump and Kris Kobach look for ways to disenfranchise Americans, People Power is launching the Let People Vote campaign to expand access to the ballot and make our democracy more representative.
In all 50 states and the District of Columbia, People Power activists will play a crucial role in campaigning for voting rights policies tailored to their state. These actions include restoring the right to vote for people with prior criminal convictions; creating independent, nonpartisan redistricting commissions; enacting early voting periods; and implementing automatic voter registration, online voter registration, and Election Day registration.
